Ye LI, male, born in 1974, Doctor of Engineering, professor of School of Transportation Engineering at Tongji University, doctoral supervisor. Professor LI has made a long-term commitment to the teaching and research work of comprehensive transportation system planning. During the past 5 years, he has been engaged in frontier research of low carbon transportation system planning, transportation service pattern innovation under Big Data environment. He has hosted over 20 research projects such as China National Natural Science Foundation Project, Soft Science Project of Ministry of Transport, the Joint Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education Project, Shanghai Philosophy and Social Science Fund Project, key Subject of Academic Degree Commission of the State Council. He has obtained important achievements in areas of regional transportation planning, low carbon transportation planning, and pedestrian and bicycle transport planning.
Xiaohong CHEN, female, born in 1961, Doctor of Engineering, professor of school of transportation engineering at Tongji university, doctoral supervisor, academic leader of “transportation planning and management” (state key discipline). Professor CHEN has made a long-term commitment to the basic and frontier research work of regional comprehensive transportation system planning, road network planning, public transit system planning and pedestrian and bicycle transport system planning. Her research on transportation planning system and methodology for metropolitan and rapid urbanization area, theoretical system and key technology for multimodal public transit system planning, transportation planning methodology under the information environment, basic theory and planning method for pedestrian and bicycle traffic flow and new energy transportation system planning are in the domestic leading position.
Jiaorong WU, female, born in 1973, Doctor of Engineering, professor of school of transportation engineering at Tongji university, doctoral supervisor. Professor WU is committed to the research of urban traffic activity behavior, high-density passenger traffic behavior and planning and public transit planning. She has hosted two China National Natural Science Foundation Projects and participated in many national projects such as 863 Program, Key Project of Natural Science Foundation of China. During the past 5 years, she has also taken charge of over 20 research and consulting projects for local government and research institutions.
Jianhong YE, male, born in 1981, Doctor of Engineering, associate professor of school of transportation engineering at Tongji university, doctoral supervisor. During the year from 2010 to 2012, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Toulan School of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University. He mainly engage in teaching and research on history and theory of transportation planning, transportation energy consumption and emissions, pedestrian and bicycle planning and design. He has taken charge of one National Natural Science Foundation Project and been selected in Outstanding Young Teacher Cultivating Scheme in Tongji University and Shanghai Pujiang Talent Plan.
1. Research Background
With nearly 30 years of continuous and rapid process of urbanization and motorization, urban transport in China has entered a new development period. Increasingly serious traffic congestion, energy shortage and deterioration of air quality put forward urgent change request for the traditional thoughts and methods to solve the problem of urban traffic (Increase traffic supply and establish car oriented road facilities to meet the demand). In the national work conference on transportation 2014, it was requested to speed up the construction of modern comprehensive transportation system with the goal of integration, intelligence, green and safe. The work conference on cities of CPC central committee in 2015 also required the goal to create better living environment and strengthen the concepts of green and low carbon. Therefore, change the traditional transportation development mode to establish a low carbon transportation system and realize the sustainable development become major issues in China’s current development of urban traffic which should be solved urgently.
Urban transport transition involves the change of concept, policy system, management mechanism, decision-making process and the application of new transportation technology. Currently, metropolises like New York, London, and Tokyo have completed or are in the process of transportation transition. And they have gained certain experience in theory and practice of the transition development policy. Domestic urban traffic transition development is still in the initial exploration stage. Although there are a few cities attempting to practice, they are lack of systematic theory support. Some big cities is experiencing a hesitation, confusion, and even a slide backwards in the transport transition development. They desired for systematic and scientific theoretical guidance on epistemology and practice method.
2. Research Area
This team focus on demand of low carbon transition development for comprehensive transportation system. From two dimensions as planning technology and policy management, from three levels as macro, meso and micro levels, the layout of research interests and recent key areas are shown in the table below.

3. Expected Results and Targets
On the basis of this team’s existing research and through the joint efforts of team members in 2015-2017, significant achievements are expected in the areas of talent team building, research work, industry codes and standards, scientific research award, etc. The detailed targets are listed as follows.
⑴ talent team: cultivate one internationalized talent or entrant of national talent project, introduce one reserved talent with international vision, absorb one or two outstanding Chinese or oversea doctor to engage in postdoctoral research.
⑵ research work: publish over three SCI papers recognized by peak discipline; add two new national research project (with fund more than 400,000 RMB) or one major consulting project (with fund more than 1,500,000 RMB); accomplish important planning research report including transport strategy research for Shanghai 2040, specific plan for pedestrian and bicycle transport, transport strategy research for Wuhan 2040; and publish at least one academic monographs.
⑶ Codes and standards: As the main participation units, compile national code of transport system planning industry –“urban comprehensive transportation system planning regulation”
Award: win a first prize of provincial and ministerial-level teaching results or get national leader’s instructions.
