Transportation Information and Control Engineering
In 2014, for keeping up with the developing trend of transportation engineering disciplines, college of transportation engineering of Tongji University gathered some teachers of the departments of Traffic Information Engineering, Traffic Engineering and Road & Airport Engineering and set up the Department of Transportation Information and Control Engineering (hereinafter referred to as Department of Transportation Information Control).
The department mainly aims to develop the second-rate disciplines called Traffic Information and Control Engineering and has the corresponding master degree programs, doctoral degree programs and postdoctoral research stations. As one of the earliest college which set up the doctoral degree program of Traffic Information and Control Engineering , it carried out the research in the field of ITS and cultivated the related talents. Especially, the doctoral program is the only one which containing both the roads & railways engineering and traffic system engineering in the field of comprehensive traffic information and control engineering. The department is one of the institutions which offering the post of Cheung Kong Scholar Chair Professors.
At present, the department has 28 full-time faculties, including 9 professors, 7 associate professors, 11 lectures and assistant professors. Among them, one enjoys the special allowance of the State Council and was selected as Outstanding Talents of Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Pujiang Talents and Famous teacher of Tongji university; one is Shanghai New Century Talents, Young Science& Technology Talents of Ministry of Transport and Shanghai Pujiang Talents; one is Outstanding Talent of Ministry of Railway, 3 people are Shanghai Pujiang Talents and many editors of domestic and overseas core journals .
In the background of engineering application and theory innovation, the department takes the comprehensive transportation system as a research object. They take advantage of traffic information and control technologies and related modern transportation technologies, work in the aspects of teaching, research and social service. The department mainly develops three research fields, namely, Rail Transport Information and Control Engineering, aviation information and management, and Intelligent Transportation Systems.
Facing the demand of the construction and management of high-speed railway and urban rail transportation, the research team of Rail Transport Information and Control Engineering researches in the fields as follows: automation & control of rail transport, safety and management of rail transport, comprehensive traffic information & communication engineering and intelligent detection & appraisal of rail transit. The aviation research team conduct research on aviation information integration and services, aviation management and optimization, and related problems. The road traffic research team take advantage of the rapid development of Intelligent Transport Systems in our country to track the international cutting-edge research hotspot and trend, focusing on the research fields including safety and risk management of road ITS, information perception and processing of the road traffic information, collaborative management and control of road traffic, Multi-mode intelligent public traffic system, the cooperative vehicle infrastructure and active service system, and shared mobility.
